Hiring Process

Orange County Corrections Department uses the following hiring process for Certified Corrections Officers and Non-Certified Corrections Officers:  

  • Applicants must complete an on-line Orange County application to be considered for this position. The application can be found at on this web site under the Officer Recruitment Information page.

After submitting the on-line application, the first step in the selection process for Corrections Officer is an entry level, general knowledge assessment. Applicants are required to complete an assessment test consisting of Judgment, Reading and Counting portions. These skills portions of the examination are basic multiple-choice tests. The assessment must be taken by the closing date of the job posting and applicants must have a test score meeting the minimum requirements on file prior to the position closing date. In order to sit for the assessment, applicants must provide photo identification. Applicants must have applied for a vacant position or have an active record in order to be eligible to take the assessment. Assessment scores are valid for one (1) year and applicants may re-test every thirty (30) calendar days. The most recent assessment score is used for consideration.

 

The assessment must be taken at the following location:

 

Internal Operations Centre I

450 E South St.

Orlando, FL  32801

 

The days and hours for the test are as follows:

 

(Please allow 25 minutes to complete the assessment).

 

Tuesday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

If you successfully pass the assessment, you will be scheduled to take a Corrections Facility Tour in within approximately two (2) weeks after you have taken the assessment. After the tour, you will receive a brief orientation regarding the complete hiring process.

 

If you are provided a conditional offer of employment, further consideration is contingent upon successful completion of the following requirements:  

  • An in-depth background investigation conducted according to the guidelines set forth by the Orange County Corrections Department, Human Resources & Labor Relations Division, and The Office of Professional Standards; which includes but not limited to contacting all employers, present and past, personal references and criminal history check, education and military. 

  • A psychological screening for job compatibility conducted and interpreted by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist. 

  • A polygraph examination conducted by a polygrapher contacted by Orange County Government, to be administered according to the guidelines set forth by Orange County Government. 
  • A comprehensive medical examination and drug screening by a licensed physician contracted by Orange County Government, to be administered according to the guidelines set forth by Orange County Government.
